"Despite all my sins and shortcomings, I knew I could come to Christ, washed and clean."

There’s a verse in 1st Corinthians that says, “Neither the sexually immoral, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, will inherit the kingdom of God.”

I was all of the above and needed a way out.

Thankfully, the verses continue to say that we are washed, sanctified and justified in Christ. So, despite all my sins and shortcomings, I knew I could come to Christ, washed and clean.

I also began to understand what it is like to live with HOPE. Not just a blind hope for good things, but one that comes from the assurance that God has the best intentions for me, even when the current situation looks bad.

This is the kind of hope and freedom from sin I pray you will experience as you watch my video on how God taught me to put my hope and trust in Him.

Love,
Beom Soo

"I went to church with my family and grew more frustrated that I couldn't gain the true peace or contentment they had in Christ."

For many years, I lived a double life.

On one side, I enjoyed the sweetness of sin and pursued pleasure like a drug. On the other side, I went to church with my family and grew more frustrated that I couldn’t gain the true peace or contentment they had in Christ.

But I pray that as you watch my story, you will join me in giving thanks for the broken roads I’ve traveled to find where I belong. I no longer fight to gain peace, but I have learned that my peace comes from the One to whom I belong.

May churches in Korea become a safe place for people like me to come home to.

"The turning point in my life was because of my mum — a relationship I never imagined to be restored so sweetly."

The turning point in my life was because of my mum — a relationship I never imagined to be restored so sweetly.

In my 20s, she was coerced by my relatives into having my then girlfriend arrested for theft after we ran away from home. But when I was in my 30s, she chose to stand up for me and would faithfully nurse me from my heartache after each breakup even though she still did not agree with my lifestyle.

She reached out to me with a kind of love that could only come from God. This sparked my earnest search for truth found in Christ and He became the Lover of my soul.

For parents of children who experience same sex attraction or gender dysphoria, do what Jesus would do; Love them. Do not write them off, because our God doesn’t. Do not condemn them, because the world already does a great job in that. Pray for them, be their safe space and gently point them to Jesus. As with my case, it was God’s unceasing love through my parents that brought me Home.

Love, Diana.

When the highs of life started to fade, Philip began to explore God’s intentions for creation.

Trigger warning: This video contains mature themes. Viewer discretion is advised.

I was always the outsider. At home, I was the only boy and could not relate to the conversations my grandma, mum and sister had. In school, I could not keep up with sports, I could not communicate well, or like girls like the rest of the guys. I wished people would notice me, but eventually, I learned to be content in sitting on the outside looking in.

In my late teens, I found attention from body building. That followed a life of pleasure and slight celebrity. But even those highs started to fade. Some things just did not add up for me. I began to question God’s design and intentions toward creation.

As I researched, God became increasingly real to me the more I read up on history and mankind. That was the start of a very deep and intimate relationship with God. I was no longer an outsider observing others, but now know what it’s like to know and to be known intimately by God and a healthy community.

I hope my story will give you the hope that Jesus is close. And if you are in the same journey like me, don’t be afraid to question God and seek answers. Read His word, study history, or go explore any other ways that God may reveal Himself to you. You’ll be amazed by what God will show you!

Love, Philip.

“If guys in church knew that I liked the same sex, I’d become a total outcast..."

“If guys in church knew that I liked the same sex, I’d become a total outcast. And if my family knew, they’d definitely kick me out.” That was my thoughts as a teenager, wrestling with the tensions of my experience with same sex attraction.

So, whenever I suspect that anyone was close to finding out my secret, I’d uproot and leave that community.
“Did anyone notice my effeminate hand gesture?”
“Omg, did I just let out that slightly higher pitched laugh?”
“Was I too friendly? Does anyone suspect that I like guys?”

This cycle continued for a decade until it became a burden too heavy to bear. This was when I knew that I had to speak to my fears and break the cycle. My constant act of worship unto the Lord was to “come home AND stay home”, to not run away because of my fears but to face it.

Slowly but surely, I came out to my community. They held space for me in my pain, and rejoiced with me in my victories. They valued me not for my struggles, but who I am. And for that, I am thankful.

The Church has often made mistakes when it comes to reaching out to people who wrestle with their sexuality and/or identity. We often try to ‘manage sin’ instead of promoting Christ’s righteousness and love.

Will we extend Christ’s righteousness and love? It can look like… being there for a friend, cooking them a meal, dropping them a text, reminding them of God’s truth in the midst of their mess, praying for them, amongst many many other things and ways.

Here, we have a conversation with Highway – a Church family that has chosen to be a friend, to walk with people in their community who experience same sex attraction by embodying the Grace and Truth of Jesus.

Dear Friends,

I have never imagined that my dark secret from my past life can become a story of hope.

For anyone who may be facing difficult days in your struggle with same sex attraction and HIV/AIDS, I like to encourage you to allow God to re-write your story.

My life is proof that God is able to transform nightmares into sunshine, mourning into dancing and despair into hope.

Come to Jesus. He loves you, no matter how broken and messed up your life may seem right now. Jesus is the one who can bring life into your dying heart.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9A

30-odd years of experiencing Jesus' unconditional acceptance, unfailing love, and unending mercy.

Dear Friends,

In some sense, this story has been 30-odd years in the making – 30-odd years of wrestling with addiction, self-loathing, loneliness, and rejection. However, it has also been 30-odd years of experiencing Jesus’ unconditional acceptance, tender-loving care, fierce, unfailing love, and unending mercy.

If you struggle with feelings of inferiority or rejection – a belief that you don’t belong, that you are a glitch in the matrix, a mistake – I would like to encourage you to let God in on your pain and your hurt. Let Him tell you how much you mean to Him, and allow him to show you just how loved you are by Him. Don’t give up yet because He hasn’t given up on you.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11, NIV)

Love,
Shaun Goh
